Region of Waterloo Council welcomes new councillor
Waterloo Region – Today, Region of Waterloo Council appointed Joseph Gowing to Regional Council following a formal appointment process.
Council declared the seat vacant on June 25, 2025 following the passing of Councillor Kari Williams and opted to fill the vacancy through an appointment by calling for applications. Eligible individuals were able to submit their application from July 2 until August 4. Applicants then presented to Council at a Special Council meeting on August 14.
Throughout the open application process, 44 individuals submitted applications. Following presentations, Council voted to appoint Joseph Gowing to fill the vacant seat.
“On behalf of Regional Council, I welcome Joseph Gowing to Council and look forward to working together as we continue to serve all residents by building a stronger community,” said Karen Redman, Regional Chair. “I also want to thank everyone who put their name forward for consideration. It’s inspiring to see so many ready and willing to serve our community.”
Councillor Gowing will have their oath of office in the coming days and will attend their first meeting as a councillor on August 27, 2025.
