Region of Waterloo declares Significant Weather Event
Waterloo Region – A significant winter storm is expected beginning late Saturday afternoon and into Sunday evening, with snowfall totals reaching up to 30 cm. Based on this forecast, the Region of Waterloo has declared a Significant Weather Event starting at 4:00 p.m. today.
During a Significant Weather Event, clearing Regional roads and bike lanes may take longer than usual. Residents are reminded to be cautious when travelling.
Road users should expect delays, slippery conditions and poor visibility. If driving, slow down and follow at a safe distance. Road users should also keep a safe distance from snow clearing equipment and crews to let them complete their work safely and efficiently.
Road users are advised to stay off the roads overnight and into Sunday, and only travel if necessary.
The Region of Waterloo is always ready for winter weather, and the Region, Cities and Townships, work together to ensure winter maintenance is timely and efficient.
City crews take the lead on Regional roads within the cities and the Region takes the lead on all other Regional roads in the townships. All local roads are maintained by the local area municipalities.
