Region of Waterloo recognized for innovative fleet operations

Waterloo Region – The Region has been awarded as one of the 100 Best Fleets in the Americas Award by NAFA Fleet Management Association (NAFA), which recognizes innovative fleets across the Americas. The Region is one of only four fleets in Canada to be recognized.

The 100 Best Fleets award highlights the innovation and leadership of public and corporate fleets that are shaping the future of fleet management and steering the industry into a bright future. The Region is piloting new technology and supporting the transition to electrification where possible.

The 100 Best Fleets in the Americas program recognizes peak-performing public fleet operations, encouraging the ever-increasing level of operational improvement in the fleet industry. Fleet applicants are judged based on 12 Criteria for Excellence, which are designed to highlight initiatives that fleet operations excel at.

“Our fleet of vehicles needs to be ready to move whenever Waterloo Region residents need them,” said Colleen James, Regional Councillor and Chair of the Sustainability, Infrastructure and Development Committee. “Whether it’s ambulances responding to emergencies, or Region snowplows out on the roads in the worst conditions, and everything in between, we rely on our fleet to provide essential services. Staff work hard behind the scenes to provide a reliable, efficient fleet of vehicles. We will continue to look for the next wave of innovations to help us better serve this community.”

The Region’s fleet team manages all of the Region’s vehicles, including ensuring all regional emergency vehicles like ambulances and Waterloo Region Police Services (WRPS) cruisers.
