Significant Weather Event ends (1)

Waterloo Region – With weather conditions improving and the plows out working 24/7, the Region of Waterloo will end the Significant Weather Event today at 12 p.m.

Crews plowed through the night and will continue to clear the roads throughout the day today. Thanks to all roads crews for their commitment to keeping the community safe.

The Region can declare a Significant Weather Event, under the Province’s Ontario Regulation 239/02, Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways, when the weather forecast and/or actual weather conditions meet hazardous conditions such as:

  • 20 cm of snow within 24 hours
  • Ice accumulation of 20 mm
  • High winds greater than 60km/h

Snow events and associated parking restrictions remain in place in the municipalities where they have been implemented, to allow for the continuation of snow removal.

Please see here for a full list of openings and closures for the Family Day holiday on Monday, February 17.  Delays can be expected due to weather, so please be patient.
