Waterloo Region, Ontario  — The Region of Waterloo is welcoming a new group of Canadian early-stage companies to Cohort 3 of the Aerospace Accelerator Program — an AeroWR initiative delivered in partnership with the Accelerator Centre and supported by Skywise. 

The Aerospace Accelerator helps founders and early-stage companies apply technologies in aerospace, aviation, autonomy, advanced manufacturing and related sectors. Participants receive tailored mentorship, commercialization support, industry connections and opportunities to explore real-world applications for their technologies. 

Cohort 3 joins the program during a period of growing momentum for aerospace, aviation, defence and strategic technologies in Waterloo Region. With strengths in artificial intelligence, robotics, advanced manufacturing, sensing and autonomous systems, as well as access to the Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF), the region offers an environment where companies can develop, test and commercialize new aerospace solutions. 

Through AeroWR, the Region of Waterloo is working to strengthen and grow the region’s aviation, aerospace and defence ecosystem. AeroWR brings together industry, researchers, government partners and regional infrastructure to address sector challenges through innovation and create opportunities for companies to scale. 

The Aerospace Accelerator is a key part of this work. Delivered with the Accelerator Centre, the program connects participating companies with the expertise, networks and commercialization supports needed to validate technology, explore pilot projects and build pathways to market. Skywise contributes specialized aerospace knowledge and industry connections to help founders understand sector needs and identify opportunities for adoption.

Since its launch three years ago, the Aerospace Accelerator has supported 20 companies working across aerospace, autonomy, aviation and advanced manufacturing. Those companies have generated more than $3 million in revenue, created 23 jobs, gained 26 new customers, secured $347,000 in investment and funding, and initiated nine partnerships and pilot projects. Previous participants have also advanced pilot projects at YKF, demonstrating how new technologies can be tested in an operational airport environment.
