  • INVITATION FOR PUBLIC COMMENT - Scheifele Bridge crossing the Conestogo River

    PUBLIC NOTICE INVITATION FOR PUBLIC COMMENT Transport Canada’s Navigation Protection Program (NPP) administers the Canadian Navigable Waters Act (CNWA) which helps keep Canada’s navigable waters open for transport and recreation. In accordance with requirements of the Canadian Navigable Waters Act, Regional Municipality of Waterloo hereby gives notice that an application has been submitted to the Minister of Transport for the below work(s): Registry Number: 13367 NPP File Number: 2023-409632 Project Description: The Region of Waterloo is planning to replace the Scheifele Bridge crossing the Conestogo River.

  • Construction notice: Scheifele Bridge, Woolwich, December 2025 – April 2026 Northfield Drive at Conestogo River About the project The Region of Waterloo will be replacing the Scheifele Bridge on Northfield Drive over the Conestogo River in Woolwich, starting in spring 2026. To access the site during construction, some trees need to be removed ahead of time.
  • Public meeting: Arthur Street, South Street East to Kenning Place, Woolwich, November 25, 7–9 p.m. The Region of Waterloo plans to reconstruct Arthur Street from South Street East to Kenning Place in Elmira. This section of Arthur Street includes the downtown core of Elmira and approximately 940 meters north of Church Street, including the Canagagigue Creek bridge.
  • Construction update: Victoria Street, Kitchener, October–November, 2025 Project update As part of the Victoria Street improvements project, work is now beginning on the east side of the intersections at Victoria Street and Westmount Road, and Victoria Street and Fischer-Hallman Road.  The west side of the Westmount Road and Fischer-Hallman Road intersections will be back open when this work begins.
  • Construction notice: Fountain Street South, Cambridge, October 20 – 24 2025 Blair Road to Dickie Settlement Road About the project The Region of Waterloo is constructing two concrete bus landing pads, one on either side of Fountain Street near Blair Road. This work also includes the installation of new sidewalks, curb and gutter leading to the new bus stop landing pads from Blair Road.
  • Region to share preferred options for transportation improvement in Elmira

    Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo has been reviewing options in Elmira to improve transportation options and support growth and is ready to share its preferred options. The improvements focus on changes to Arthur Street (Regional Road 85) from north of Provincial Highway 85 to Listowel Road in Elmira, as well as a potential new truck bypass.

  • Construction notice: Fountain Street North, Woolwich, October – December 2025 Flanders Road to 270m south of railroad bridge About the project The Region of Waterloo is installing a new watermain along Fountain Street North from Flanders Road/Horseshoe Crescent to approximately 270m south of the railroad bridge. During this work the asphalt, shoulders and boulevards on the road will also be replaced.
  • Construction notice: Shantz Station Road, Woolwich, October 2025 Kramp Road to Hopewell Creek Bridge About the project The Region of Waterloo is improving Shantz Station Road between Kramp Road and Hopewell Creek Bridge in Woolwich. This work will include resurfacing the asphalt and upgrading the guiderails on Hopewell Creek Bridge.
  • Public meeting: Guelph to Goderich Rail Trail Proposed Pedestrian Bridge, Wellesley, October 16, 6 – 8 p.m. The Region of Waterloo has begun early planning and design work for a proposed pedestrian bridge over the Conestogo River, as part of the Guelph to Goderich (G2G) Rail Trail. The proposed bridge is located between Powell Road and Line 86, near the Village of Wallenstein.
  • Construction notice: Hartman Bridge, Huron Street, Wilmot, September 29–October 10 2025 Waterloo Street to Union Street About the project The Region of Waterloo is repairing the Hartman Bridge in New Hamburg. This work includes repairing the concrete and steel bars.
