Construction notice: Can-Amera Parkway July 2026 - September 2026
About the project
The Region of Waterloo is rehabilitating Can-Amera Parkway between Franklin Boulevard and Conestoga Boulevard. This work includes a new asphalt roadway, multi-use paths on each side of the road, new streetlighting, bus stop improvements, and replacement of the existing guiderail.
Timing — starts on or around July 27, 2026
Construction on Can-Amera Parkway is anticipated to begin on or around July 27, 2026, and is scheduled to be completed at the end of September 2026. Working hours will be Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Closures (or lane reductions)
The eastbound direction of Can-Amera Parkway will be fully closed between Conestoga Boulevard to Franklin Boulevard for the duration of construction.
Please follow the detour signage on Hespeler Road to Bishop Street to Franklin Boulevard. There will also be short-term full road closure in the westbound direction at certain stages, including during surface asphalt placement.
Emergency Services (Police, Fire, Paramedics) will be notified of the construction, closures and detours to minimize any disruptions to services.

Pedestrian access
The sidewalks in this area will remain accessible during the project. Pedestrians should follow the signs as they walk through the site.
Property and business access
All businesses in the construction area remain open and accessible during construction. Every effort will be made to maintain access to residential and business driveways in the construction area during working hours, however access may be temporarily impacted when construction activities are directly adjacent to the driveway access. We will provide as much advanced notice as possible of any access interruptions.
Please plan for some delays and travel carefully in the construction zone. We request that when driving or walking through and around the construction zone you follow and obey the construction traffic signage for your safety and for the safety of the workers.
Waste collection changes
Regular waste pickup will continue as scheduled during construction.
Restoration and landscaping
If your driveway or landscaping is damaged by construction, we will replace/reinstate it to pre-construction condition. We will take care of any sod that is replaced for 60 days. After 60 days, all sod maintenance and watering become the responsibility of the property owner.
Dust, mud and vibration
You may notice slight vibrations from the contractor’s equipment during construction. All efforts will be made to minimize adverse impacts from construction including dust, mud and vibration.
