Construction notice: Fischer-Hallman Road / Bearinger Road (June- July 2026)
About the project
The Region of Waterloo is nearing the completion of construction on Fischer-Hallman Road / Bearinger Rd. between Columbia St W. to Westmount Rd. N. in Waterloo, which included a range of upgrades such as road widening, new center medians, multi-use pathways, grass and landscaping, and installation of new underground storm sewer and watermain.
This year, work will continue to complete the remaining activities, which includes:
• Concrete sidewalk
• Curb and gutter
• Grass restoration
• Final surface asphalt coat
• Final line painting and pavement markings
Timing
Preliminary work is expected to begin on or around June 22, 2026, and will continue through the first week of July 2026, with two-way traffic maintained.
Closures
Fischer-Hallman Rd. and Bearinger Rd. between Columbia St. W. and Westmount Rd. N. will be closed to through traffic on July 9 -11. During these closures, there will be no access to Fischer-Hallman Rd from Laurelwood Dr and Gatestone Blvd.
The intersection of Bearinger Road and Westmount Road North will be closed on June 29 for road resurfacing work. It will also be closed to through traffic for one day on or around July 10 or 11 to accommodate additional construction work.
Detour
West-bound traffic on Bearinger Rd will be directed to take Westmount Rd. N. and Columbia St. W. North-bound traffic on Fischer-Hallman Rd will be directed to take Columbia St. W. and Westmount Rd. N. View detour map here.

Emergency Services (Police, Fire, Paramedics) have been notified of the construction, closures and detours to minimize any disruptions to services.
Pedestrian access
The multi-use paths on both sides of the road in this area will remain accessible during
the project. Pedestrians should follow the signs as they walk through the site.
Property and business access
All businesses in the construction area remain open and accessible during construction. Every effort will be made to maintain access to residential and business driveways in the construction area during working hours (7 a.m.–7 p.m.). Construction activities may temporarily impact access to entrances. We will provide notice of any interruption in advance as much as possible.
Please plan for some delays and travel carefully in the construction zone. We request that when driving or walking through and around the construction zone you follow and obey the construction traffic signage for your safety and for the safety of the workers.
Waste collection changes
Waste collection will not be impacted by the project.
Dust, mud and vibration
You may notice slight vibrations from the contractor’s equipment during construction. All efforts will be made to minimize adverse impacts from construction including dust, mud and vibration.
