Construction notice: Highway 7/8 closure for bridge placement, City of Kitchener, August 25, 2024
About the project
The Region has built a pedestrian/cycle bridge that will be placed across Highway 7/8 to improve access and active transportation in the area. The bridge will be lifted and placed across the highway between the Fischer Hallman Rd and Homer Watson Blvd interchanges. It is necessary to close Highway 7/8 while the bridge is being put into place.
Please plan ahead as significant delays are expected in these affected areas during the highway closure.
Follow the Region on social media and our website for updates should this work be rescheduled due to weather or unexpected operational delays. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.
Lane closures and timing
Lane closures on Highway 7/8 will begin at 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, moving into a full closure starting at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, August 25.
Chandler Drive, between Woodfern Court and Strasburg Road, will also require a brief closure of a few hours on August 24 to get equipment in place.
Reopening
Highway 7/8 will reopen with a single lane on Sunday, August 25 before midnight. All lanes will fully open by Monday, August 26 at 5 a.m.
Detour
During the full closure on Sunday, August 25, eastbound highway traffic will be diverted off at the Fisher Hallman Rd interchange, and westbound highway traffic will be diverted off at the Homer Watson Blvd interchange. Ottawa Street will be used as the detour route. Signage will be placed to direct motorists.
