Fischer-Hallman Road to Lawrence Avenue

About the project

The Region of Waterloo is improving Victoria Street between Fischer-Hallman Road and Lawrence Avenue in Kitchener. Phase one includes the Fischer-Hallman Road and Westmount Road intersections. Phase two will be from Fischer-Hallman Road to Lawrence Avenue (not including the intersections).

This work includes pavement rehabilitation, upgrades to underground infrastructure, safety improvements at intersections, and new transit, cycling and pedestrian facilities.

Timing — starts July 16, 2025

Construction of phase one will start on or around July 16 and go until November 2025. The detour route will be in effect starting July 23.

Closures and lane reductions

Victoria Street between Lawrence Avenue and Fischer-Hallman Road will be closed to through traffic from July 23 to the end of October.

Two-way traffic will be maintained for northbound and southbound traffic along Fischer-Hallman Road and Westmount Road. Where two-way traffic cannot be maintained, flag persons and police officers will direct traffic, and the roadway reopened by the end of the working day.

In late fall 2025 or spring 2026, a short-term full closure of each intersection will be required at night for surface asphalt paving. Advance notice will be provided

Detour

Eastbound traffic will be detoured through Ira Needles Boulevard > Highland Road > Lawrence Avenue/Belmont Avenue.

Westbound traffic will be detoured through Lawrence Avenue/Belmont Avenue > Highland Road > Ira Needles Boulevard.

Emergency Services (Police, Fire, Paramedics) have been notified of the construction, closures and detours to minimize any disruptions to services.

Pedestrian access

Temporary sidewalks and transit stops will be provided near the intersections for pedestrian access during construction. We request that when walking through and around the construction zone you follow and obey the construction traffic signage.
