McDougall Cottage Announces Community Art Contest
Waterloo Region, ON – McDougall Cottage is pleased to announce its Grand Inspirations - “What the Grand Means to Me” community art contest. The contest invites artists of all ages and skill levels to celebrate the Grand River through various artistic mediums. Online submissions are open until October 11 and will be followed by a community voting period. Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries in three age categories based on public votes.
The contest, in conjunction with the Currents of Change – Inspiring Action Along the Grand River exhibit, not only celebrates the exhibit but also the Grand River’s 30th anniversary as a Canadian Heritage River.
“The Grand River is a vital resource for our community and an important part of our community’s identity,” said Karen Redman, Chair of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. “This contest not only celebrates its significance but also invites everyone to engage creatively and reflect on what the Grand River means to them. I encourage residents of Waterloo Region to participate and share their unique perspective through art.”
Historically, McDougall Cottage has held a Paint the Grand event which invited artists to set up along the river and create pieces for a gallery auction. This year's contest opens the opportunity for artists of all mediums to participate from photographers, poets, painters, dancers, musicians, video artists and more.
“McDougall Cottage is thrilled to host this revamped community art contest as part of our exhibit celebrating the Grand River,” said Michelle Bartlett, Head of Content and Experience for McDougall Cottage. “We’re looking forward to seeing the diverse interpretations and artistic responses from our community and look forward to showcasing their works.”
Artists wishing to participate can find full contest details including submission criteria and prize information on the submission platform. Pieces can be submitted digitally anytime before October 11 at 11:59 p.m. Public voting takes place between October 12 and 31. Winners will be announced in November. First, second, and third prizes will be awarded in each category based on public votes.
