Notice of Regional Council Consideration of Street Design Guidelines

The Region of Waterloo is proposing new Street Design Guidelines to guide how Regional roads are designed and built.

These new guidelines would replace the current Regional Transportation Corridor Design Guidelines, which were last updated in 2013. The proposed guidelines are intended to support growth in the region, improve comfort and convenience for people using Regional roads, encourage lower traffic speeds, and support all methods of travel.

If approved, the new guidelines would be used when the Region builds new roads and reconstructs existing Regional roads.

A draft version of the guidelines was shared with Regional Council for information in Report TSD-TRP-26-001 at the Sustainability, Infrastructure and Development Committee meeting on January 13, 2026. That report is available on the Region of Waterloo website.

The final version of the guidelines will be attached to the report going to the Sustainability, Infrastructure and Development Committee meeting on June 2, 2026.

The agenda for the June 2, 2026 meeting will be posted one week before the meeting at https://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/government-and-council/council/council-calendar/

People who would like to speak to the committee can register as a delegation.
