Waterloo Region— Region of Waterloo employees provide services to nearly 700,000 residents daily. This work is critical and is valued and appreciated.

The Region is currently in negotiations with CUPE, Local 1656, representing outside workers.

We continue to work closely with CUPE and are committed to reaching an agreement that is competitive for workers and affordable for residents.

Currently, CUPE, Local 1656, will be in a legal strike position as of March 3, 2025.

In the event of a strike, the Region of Waterloo Landfill and Recycling Centres in Cambridge and Waterloo will be closed to the public.
