Regional service changes for Christmas and New Years

Waterloo Region – Here is the list of Region of Waterloo service changes over the Christmas and New Years holidays.  

 

Administrative offices 

  • All Regional administrative offices (99 Regina St. S. in Waterloo, 150 Frederick St. in Kitchener, 150 Main St. in Cambridge, Airport Administrative) will be closed December 25, 26 and January 1.  

Warming spaces 

  • Warming spaces will be open on weekends and on December 25, 26 and January 1 at the following locations and times: 150 Main Street (Cambridge) from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and 150 Frederick Street (Kitchener) from 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 
  • Other warming spaces across the region will continue to be available during their scheduled business hours. Visit regionofwaterloo.ca/WarmingSpaces for locations and times.  
  • Overnight warming spaces at 298 Lawrence Avenue (Kitchener) and 6 Cambridge Street (Cambridge) will be open the nights of December 25, 26 and January 1. Visit regionofwaterloo.ca/overnight-warming for more information.

Garbage and green bin collection 

  • There will be no curbside waste collection on Dec. 25, 2025 and Jan. 1, 2026. Thursday collection will be delayed until Friday and Friday collection will be moved to Saturday. Sign up for waste collection reminders via the Waste Whiz app!
  • Transfer stations for residential drop-off at both the Cambridge and Waterloo Waste Management sites will be closed Dec. 25-26, 2025 and Jan. 1, 2026.
  • Refer to the 2025 waste collection calendar for your Double Garbage Days in January 2026.

Grand River Transit 

  • GRT will operate on a winter holiday service schedule from December 22 to January 4. Holiday service is marked on all route schedules. For more information, visit grt.ca/winterholiday.  
  • MobilityPLUS service will operate. For customers with subscription trips, those trips on December 25, 26 and January 1 will be automatically cancelled. MobilityPLUS customers can rebook trips in advance by calling 519-744-2241. 
  • All GRT Customer Service Centres will be closed December 25, 26 and January 1. 

Home Child Care 

  • Offices will be closed December 25, 26 and January 1. Licensed care will operate as specified by your provider.  
  • For urgent issues, call 519-575-4400 and ask for Home Child Care.

Public Health clinics 

  • Public Health Clinics will be closed December 25, 26 and January 1.   

Region of Waterloo International Airport 

  • Administration offices at the airport will be closed but airport operations will not be affected.  

Region of Waterloo libraries 

  • December 24: Regularly open branches will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Breslau Library branch will be closed. 
  • December 25-26: All branches closed.   
  • December 31: Regularly open branches will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Breslau Library branch will be closed. 
  • January 1: All branches closed.   

Region of Waterloo museums 

Seniors’ Services 

  • Administration for Sunnyside Seniors’ Services and the Sunnyside Wellness Centre will be closed on December 25, 26 and January 1. 
  • Community Alzheimer Day Programs, the Young Onset Dementia Association, and Seniors’ Services Overnight Stay Program will be closed from December 25 to January 1. 

Service First Call Centre 

  • Remains open 24/7. 

Welcome Spaces 

  • Welcome Spaces at 99 Regina St. S. in Waterloo, 20 Weber St. E. in Kitchener, and 150 Main St. in Cambridge will be closed December 25, 26 and January 1.
