Transit Team Appreciation Day 2023
On March 18, join us as we celebrate Transit Team Appreciation Day and everyone who keeps the Region moving through their hard work and dedication. Transit is an essential part of creating affordable, thriving, liveable cities. Hundreds of people in our community dedicate their careers to helping connect residents and visitors with the people they love, the places they want to go, and the services they need every day of the year.
“Today, we’re honouring and appreciating every member of our transit team,” said Doug Spooner, Director, Transit Services. “Whether they’re in the driver’s seat, maintaining our fleet, planning routes, adjusting schedules, doing payroll, or helping to keep customers informed, we appreciate them and we thank them.”
At Grand River Transit, more than 800 employees support the transit network, along with partners from Keolis, Kiwanis Transit and Voyago, who have all been working to restore transit services in the Region to pre-pandemic levels and beyond.
“It takes an amazing team to keep any transit system moving,” said Mathieu Goetzke, Commissioner, Transportation Services. “In Waterloo Region, we’re fortunate to have a committed team that puts our customers first and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Grand River Transit buses and trains travel 60,000 kilometres and carry 100,000 people each day. “Transit Team Appreciation Day provides an important opportunity to recognize the dedication of our conventional and MobilityPLUS operators, as well as our technicians and automotive service attendants. Our members provide exceptional service in our community, care for our transit customers and are proud of what they do,” said Brendan Burke, President, Unifor Local 4304. “Thank you for your commitment to our community.”
“Behind the scenes, there are amazing professionals doing crucial work in planning, scheduling, administration, finance, communications and customer service,” said Noelle Fletcher, President,CUPE Local 1883. “I want to thank everyone for their work and devotion to supporting our transit family.”
Transit customers and community members are encouraged to show their appreciation and support on March 18 with a hello when you board a bus or ION train or visit a customer service location, and a thank you when you leave.
