Karen Redman, Regional Chair

Karen Redman is the Regional Chair of the Waterloo Region, having been elected in the October 22, 2018 municipal election.
Karen has been dedicated to public service for more than 20 years. She has represented the community at several levels of government including federal, municipal and the board of education. Prior to being elected as Chair, she served on Regional Council as a representative for the City of Kitchener.
Karen has a Master's degree in Political Science, as well as an Honour's Bachelor's degree in English.
Among her professional endeavours, Karen served as Chief Executive Officer at Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region from 2010 to 2018.
In other community activities, Karen has served as Chair of the Independent Living Centre of Waterloo Region, President of the Rotary Club of Kitchener 2014-2015 and a Board Member of Martin Lutheran University College (formerly Waterloo Lutheran Seminary). Karen is also an elder at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian church in Kitchener. Karen is the recipient of the Queens Jubilee Medal and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal.
Karen Redman is a life-long resident of Waterloo Region. She currently resides in Kitchener and she and her husband Warren have four grown children.

Request a Congratulatory Certificate
The Regional Chair's Office offers congratulatory certificates recognizing significant personal, community, and organizational milestones achieved by Waterloo Region residents, businesses, organizations, and community groups that contribute to or reflect positively on the region.
Eligible milestones
Birthdays and wedding anniversaries
- 80th birthdays and every five years thereafter
- 50th wedding anniversaries and every 10 years thereafter
Organizational anniversaries
- Businesses: 50 years and every 10 years thereafter
- Non-profit organizations, service clubs, schools, and places of worship: 25 years and every 5 years thereafter
Community achievements and milestones
Certificates may also be considered for significant community achievements, notable awards, major program or organizational milestones, commemorative events, and other accomplishments that have a meaningful connection to Waterloo Region.
How to request a certificate
Please contact the Regional Chair's Office at Chair@regionofwaterloo.ca or 519-575-4585 and include:
- Type of certificate requested
- Full name of the recipient(s) as it should appear on the certificate
- Date of the milestone or achievement
- Date of the celebration (if applicable)
- Recipient's mailing address
- Your name and contact information
Please note
- Requests must have a clear connection to Waterloo Region.
- A minimum of 2-3 weeks' notice is recommended.
- Certificates are intended for significant milestones and achievements and are not issued for routine celebrations or promotional purposes.
- All requests are reviewed individually, and approval is at the discretion of the Regional Chair's Office.
You will be notified when your certificate is ready for pickup during regular business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at:

If your charitable organization, agency or sports team would like to hand out Region of Waterloo lapel pins at an upcoming meeting, event or tournament, please email the Regional Chair's Office or phone the Regional Chair's office, 519-575-4585 and include the following details in your message:
- Your name
- Your organization (if applicable)
- Your phone number
- Your address
- Your e-mail
- The number of pins requested and reason (e.g. meeting, tournament, friendship exchange, travel)
- The date the pins are required
Please note that due to costs, we generally limit the quantities given away at any one time. You will be contacted when your pins are ready. They may be picked up during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday at:
