Region of Waterloo Public Health is encouraging parents and caregivers to take a few simple steps now to help children start the school year healthy.

The paperwork is filed and candidates are registered as Waterloo Region voters prepare to head to the polls this fall. Candidate nominations for the 2026 municipal election closed at 2 p.m. on August 21, 2026.

A mosquito surveillance trap in Kitchener has tested positive for West Nile virus. This is the first positive mosquito trap in Waterloo Region in 2026. There have been no reported human cases of West Nile virus to date this year.
