  • Community celebrates PRIDE at Schneider Haus (1) Waterloo Region, ON - Schneider Haus is celebrating PRIDE on Saturday, July 13, with a free outdoor market and elder talk in collaboration with Spectrum Waterloo Region's Rainbow Community Space and sponsored by Scotiabank. The event will feature local artisans, live music by Coraline James, free cookies, kid-friendly crafts, and glitter tattoos.
  • Investing in intersection real-time data helps Region improve community experience Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo and Miovision Technologies have collaborated over the past few years to implement a real-time data collection system at signalized intersections through the Miovision TrafficLink Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS).  Regional Council’s approval to expand the system to the remaining signalized intersections across the Region of Waterloo will help guide how roads, transit, and pedestrian and cycling facilities will improve through 2041.
  • Region Purchases Lands for Potential GO Station Site and Affordable Housing Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo has purchased a strategic parcel of land in Woolwich, unlocking opportunity for a potential future GO Station site and new mixed-use development including affordable housing. This new parcel is a milestone investment in Breslau and will help ensure that the Region plans intentionally as we quickly grow to one million people.
  • Region invests in permanent emergency shelter and future affordable housing with purchase of 84 Frederick Street Waterloo Region – Today, Region of Waterloo Council approved the purchase of 84 Frederick Street, Kitchener for use as a permanent emergency shelter and as a critical investment in future affordable housing in downtown Kitchener. The purchase from the building’s current owners, YW Kitchener-Waterloo, will be finalized as of July 1, 2024.
  • Extended hours for Regional building cooling spaces Waterloo Region – Due to the extended heat warning issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada for Waterloo Region, cooling space hours at select Regional buildings are being extended until Friday, June 21.   150 Main Street, Cambridge will stay open until 6 p.
  • Service First Contact Centre (SFCC) Wins Award for Excellence in Service Transformation Waterloo Region - The Service First Contact Centre (SFCC) has received the prestigious Excellence in Service Transformation award from Municipal Service Delivery Officials (MSDO), a national organization that brings together senior service delivery professionals from public sector organizations. This award highlights the transformation of the contact center operations, a strategic initiative that has enhanced how we deliver services to residents.
  • Exhibit exploring themes of Intimate Partner Violence now open at Schneider Haus National Historic Site Waterloo Region, ON – Schneider Haus is pleased to open Matrilineal Hauntings, a new installation of sculptures by Toronto-based artist and art historian Kathy Kranias. Drawing on her family history in her matrilineal line, the exhibition explores intimate partner violence, the effects felt intergenerationally, and the “tension between quiet violence and injustice” that parallels our current times.
  • GRT launches Business Plan consultations Waterloo Region – Grand River Transit is mapping out the next five years of transit service investments, as it responds to unprecedented ridership in the fastest growing community in Canada. Across the Region, community feedback will be gathered to inform GRT’s Conventional Bus and ION Train Business Plan, MobilityPLUS Business Plan and Township Transportation Strategy.
  • Waterloo Region Housing Leaders and Industry Experts Gather for Homes For All Summit, Moving Affordable Housing Solutions Forward Waterloo Region – On Tuesday June 11th, housing developers, advocates, industry experts, academics, elected officials and municipal staff took part in the Region of Waterloo’s inaugural Homes for All Summit at Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum. As part of the Region of Waterloo’s Homes for All strategic priority, the Homes for All Summit was an action-oriented event exploring different models, tools, policies and approaches to creating more affordable housing in Waterloo Region.
  • GRT to celebrate five years of ION light rail with free transit Waterloo Region – To thank customers and mark five years of ION light rail transit in the Region of Waterloo, Grand River Transit (GRT) is celebrating with community events and entertainment at transit stations and a weekend of free service. GRT will offer free transit on ION light rail, all GRT bus routes, and MobilityPLUS on Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23.
