  • Second-dose options for residents who received a first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine Waterloo Region - Residents of Waterloo Region who received a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine have two options for their second dose. Starting on Friday, June 4 and depending on vaccine availability, anyone who received a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine can either receive a second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine or an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna).
  • 11 major active transportation initiatives complete thanks to funding from Canada’s Public Transit Infrastructure Fund (PTIF) Waterloo Region – Grand River Transit (GRT) in collaboration with the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo have completed 11 major active transportation initiatives thanks to $5 million total in federal and municipal project funding through Canada’s Public Transit Infrastructure Fund (PTIF).  “Investing in modern and integrated networks of multi-use trails and pathways that connect to public transit are essential to building healthy and sustainable communities for all Canadians to live, work, and raise their families in,” said the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth, and Member of Parliament for Waterloo.
  • Residents 80+ now eligible for an earlier second dose of COVID-19 vaccine Waterloo Region - Waterloo Region is now accepting requests for an earlier appointment for a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for adults in the 80+ age group. Today, the Province opened eligibility for a shortened interval between first and second doses of the vaccine for everyone 80 years of age and older.
  • Waterloo Region inviting 12-17 year olds to book appointment for COVID-19 vaccine Waterloo Region – Starting Friday May 28, the Region of Waterloo will begin notifying individuals 12-17 years of age that they can book their appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine. They can also book appointments for all family members who are 12+ living within the same household.
  • Provincial plan to safely reopen Waterloo Region Waterloo Region –The Province of Ontario has announced their roadmap to reopen, a plan based on the province-wide vaccination rate and improvements in key public health and health care indicators. The three-step plan provides an opportunity to safely and cautiously reopen Waterloo Region and the province.
  • Dedicated Mental-Health Pilot Program Launching for Tourism and Hospitality Workers Waterloo Region – Explore Waterloo Region and the Region of Waterloo today announced a dedicated mental-health and wellbeing pilot program for the tourism and hospitality workforce. The program, which is being managed by Carizon Family and Community Services, will provide workers from the industry with quick access to mental health supports.

  • Virtual Launch Event for the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine Clinic Waterloo Region - In partnership, Region of Waterloo Public Health, Sanguen Health Centre, House of Friendship, and Stonehenge Therapeutic Community are celebrating the opening of the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) Clinic at the Consumption and Treatment Services (CTS) site. The integration of the RAAM clinic at the CTS, represents an important milestone and will provide integrated, wraparound supports for people who use substances.
  • Waterloo Region surpasses 250,000 vaccinations as more Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are expected Waterloo Region – Waterloo Region has administered over 250,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and today will reach the milestone of 50 per cent of residents 18+ having received at least one dose of the vaccine. As the Region’s allotment of vaccine from the Province increases for the rest of May and into June, more residents can expect to be contacted to book an appointment.
  • Highest-risk health care workers eligible for an earlier second dose of COVID-19 vaccine Waterloo Region – Waterloo Region is now accepting requests for an earlier appointment for a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine from highest-risk health care workers. These highest-risk health care workers were identified by the Province for a shortened interval between first and second doses of the vaccine.
