The Region of Waterloo is inviting families to share their experiences and ideas to help guide the future of child care and early years programs.  

Region of Waterloo Library (RWL) is expanding its accessible collection with new adaptive gaming controllers and gaming kits, giving patrons more ways to enjoy gaming in a comfortable and accessible way.

It’s National AccessAbility Week in Canada and the Region of Waterloo is taking action to reduce barriers by joining the Sunflower Program, an internationally recognized initiative that supports people with hidden disabilities in accessing public services.  

Nineteen community organizations across Waterloo Region will receive a combined $90,000 through the Region of Waterloo’s Community Environmental Fund in 2026 to advance local projects focused on environmental stewardship, climate resilience, sustainability education and green space.

This summer, a new Grand River Transit (GRT) Pride bus will travel on routes across Waterloo Region, celebrating the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and the connections that help make the region welcoming, inclusive and vibrant. 

More residents and businesses will have a chance to reduce their water bills in 2027 as the Region expands programs that help identify leaks and lower water use. 

The Region of Waterloo, in partnership with GrandBridge Energy, is launching RetrofitWR, a new program that helps eligible homeowners make energy-efficient upgrades to improve home comfort, reduce energy costs and lower greenhouse gas emissions. 

The Region of Waterloo and the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) are moving ahead with two modular child care centres at Kitchener schools, creating 176 new licensed child care spaces, with The Healing of the Seven Generations and RisingOaks Early Learning Ontario selected as operators.

With a hot and dry summer in the forecast, the annual Water Conservation Bylaw is back. The bylaw will be in effect from May 31 to September 30 to help curb outdoor water use, which typically increases during the warmer months. 

As announced late yesterday, A Better Tent City (ABTC) will wind down its operations as a non-profit organization, as of Monday, July 20, 2026.
