  • COVID-19 vaccine pre-registration opens to everyone 12+ in Waterloo Region Waterloo Region – Starting today, everyone who is 12 years of age or older can pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine in Waterloo Region. Pre-registration is expanding locally as the Province announces a stable and reliable vaccine supply in Ontario.
  • Adults 50+ can now pre-register for COVID-19 vaccination Waterloo Region – Starting today, anyone who is 50+ (or born in 1971 and turning 50 this year) can pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine in Waterloo Region. The Province announced it is expanding pre-registration due to an expected increase in the vaccine supply.
  • Anyone 18+ in high-priority neighbourhoods can pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine Waterloo Region – As of Monday, May 3, individuals who are 18+ and live in one of six high-priority neighbourhoods in Waterloo Region can pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine. For the next two weeks, the Province has announced it is allocating more vaccine to communities hardest hit by COVID-19 and is expanding eligibility to individuals 18+ in these hot spots.
  • Region to surpass 200,000 doses as more groups are eligible to pre-register for the vaccine Waterloo Region - Today, Waterloo Region is expecting to surpass the significant milestone of having administered 200,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to residents. With an expected increase in the vaccine supply in the latter half of May, the Region is announcing that it will expand pre-registration to two additional groups on Saturday, May 1: individuals with at-risk health conditions as outlined by the Province; and adults 55+ or anyone born in 1966 who is turning 55 this year.
  • Vaccine pre-registration is expanding to adults 45+ in high-priority neighbourhoods Waterloo Region – Starting Wednesday, April 28, adults 45+ who live in high-priority neighbourhoods that have been identified by the Province with local input can begin to pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine. Anyone 45+, or born in 1976 and turning 45 this year, who lives in one of the following high-priority neighbourhoods can pre-register for the vaccine as of tomorrow: Vanier/Rockway (Kitchener) Country Hills (Kitchener) Alpine/Laurentian (Kitchener) Victoria Hills/Cherry Hill (Kitchener) Shades Mills (Cambridge) Columbia/Lakeshore (Waterloo) Members of the public who are 45+ and live in one of the identified high-priority neighbourhoods are strongly encouraged to pre-register for the vaccine, and when they receive notification that it’s their turn to book an appointment, to do so right away.
  • If you are pregnant you are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine Waterloo Region – The Province has announced that if you are pregnant, you are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine as pregnant individuals are at increased risk of severe illness and hospitalization. This group has been added to Phase 2 of the vaccine rollout under highest-risk health conditions.
  • Community Environmental Fund supports 18 new projects Waterloo Region - RegionalCouncil has approved $149,992 in funding for 18 projects under the Community Environmental Fund (CEF) grant program this year. Applicants receiving funding include 15 community organizations and three schools, with projects ranging from Kids Cutting Carbon and community gardens, to reusable takeout containers.
  • Region and WRDSB agree to closure date for Elmira Children’s Centre Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo and the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) have agreed to an August 20th closure date for the Elmira Children's Centre, located at Riverside Public School. In accordance with its normal practice, the WRDSB is responsible for selecting child care providers to operate in its schools and will make a public announcement when a provider at Riverside is confirmed.
  • COVID-19 vaccine pre-registration opens for first group of essential workers Waterloo Region - Today, essential workers from some sectors are eligible to pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine in Waterloo Region. The Province has identified which sectors fall within the first group of essential workers who cannot work from home.
  • Federal budget reinforces Regional priorities Waterloo Region -Yesterday's federal budget provided the Government of Canada's plan to emerge and bounce back from COVID-19 and reinforced key priority areas for the Region of Waterloo. The budget responds to some of the gaps exposed by the pandemic, including long-term care, mental health, sickness benefits and child care.
