  • Regional delegation advances rural priorities with Provincial Ministers Waterloo Region – A delegation of local leaders advocated for rural needs and priorities while meeting with provincial cabinet ministers earlier this week at the annual Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference in Toronto.   Regional Chair Karen Redman and Regional Councillors Sue Foxton and Natasha Salonen met with cabinet ministers and members of provincial parliament on key priorities such as the expansion of rural transit, drinking water protection, advancing economic opportunities across the region, and the need for a new fiscal deal for municipalities  Waterloo Regional Police Chief Mark Crowell also joined the delegation to discuss the implementation of the Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan with Solicitor General Michael Kerzner.
  • Region-wide youth well-being data released by the Children and Youth Planning Table Waterloo Region – The Children and Youth Planning Table of Waterloo Region has released data from the 2023 Youth Impact Survey (YIS). In May 2023, the region-wide survey launched with the goal to hear from a diverse cross-section of youth aged 9-18 about their well-being.
  • Region’s Commissioner brings experience and heart to the Ontario Public Works Association as President for 2024 Waterloo Region – On January 18, 2024, Jennifer Rose, Commissioner of Engineering and Environmental Services for the Region of Waterloo, took the helm at the Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA) as president for a one-year term. “It is an honour and privilege to lead a membership of professionals from across the province that is dedicated to excellence in public works service delivery and support within their communities,” said Jennifer Rose, commissioner, Region of Waterloo.
  • Region creating a more accessible and inclusive child care system Waterloo Region - The Region is making progress in building a more accessible child care system as it launches the Access and Inclusion Plan.Work is underway to support the region's youngest residents and to create equitable opportunities for all children in the community.
  • Public Health Launches Campaign to Vaccinate 32,000 Students Waterloo Region - Region of Waterloo Public Health is launching a campaign to help 32,000 students get the vaccines that they need, and their records updated to stay in school. There are close to 22,000 elementary school students and 10,000 secondary school students in Waterloo Region whose vaccine records are not up to date.
  • Grand River Transit welcomes Ryder as official transit mascot Waterloo Region - Grand River Transit (GRT) is excited to announce the launch of our official mascot, Ryder. Ryder became a star at GRT after being misplaced on a snowy February day in 2022.
  • Regional service changes for the holidays (3) Waterloo Region - Here is a list of Region of Waterloo service changes for the Christmas and New Years' holidays. Regional Administrative Offices (Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge, and airport administrative offices) will be closed Monday, December 25, Tuesday, December 26 and Monday, January 1.
  • Flair Airlines new Las Vegas service takes flight from the Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) Waterloo Region – Tonight, Flair Airlines will launch its inaugural flight to Las Vegas, Nevada from the Region of Waterloo International Airport. While the new service will enhance travel options for residents, it also represents a significant milestone in the continued growth and development of air travel in Waterloo Region.
  • Region of Waterloo paramedics receive awards from Governor General for 30 and 40 years of exemplary service Waterloo Region – First and second bars of the Governor General's Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal have been awarded to Region of Waterloo paramedics celebrating 30 and 40 years of exemplary service to the community. The Exemplary Service Medal celebrates the accomplishments of paramedics who have provided at least 20 years of exemplary service distinguished by high standards of conduct, industry and efficiency.
  • Region of Waterloo 2024 budget maintains essential services, invests in critical community needs Waterloo Region – Regional Council passed the 2024 Plan and Budget on Wednesday that maintains the essential services residents rely on, while increasing investments to meet the needs of a rapidly growing community. The 2024 budget includes increased investments in housing, transit services, paramedic services, and more.
