  • Region’s COVID-19 dashboard to reduce frequency of reporting Waterloo Region – Starting this week, the Waterloo Region COVID-19 Summary dashboard will be updated twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays at 1:30 p.m.
  • Heritage Foundation pauses funding for internal strategic review Region of Waterloo – The Waterloo Regional Heritage Foundation is temporarily pausing the acceptance of grant applications to enable a review of their strategic priorities. As part of its budget deliberations in December 2021, Region of Waterloo Council opted to pause funding to the Heritage Foundation as the Region undertakes a review of its overall approach to discretionary grants.
  • Region forecasts 990 new affordable homes in 2022 Building Better Futures Update Waterloo Region – Significant progress continues on the Region’s Building Better Futures plan, with 990 total new homes forecast in 2022. Of the 990 units, 837 are in development.
  • Delivering initiatives to help build more equitable futures in Waterloo Region Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo and its partners are delivering initiatives in 2022 that aim to build more equitable futures for all Waterloo Region residents. Key investments in the Region’s 2022 Annual Business Plan will: Accelerate the creation of affordable housing and support those facing the greatest housing barriers Invest in the social and economic health and wellbeing of First Nation, Metis and Inuit communities, African, Caribbean and Black communities and other racialized and marginalized communities Build critical capacity for climate action Support business and stimulate economic growth Maintain service levels for important Regional services, and more “Funding these important areas will help to meet the needs of residents today, tomorrow and for future generations,” said Bruce Lauckner, CAO of the Region of Waterloo.
  • First PD Day for Region’s Child Care Staff set for May 9 Waterloo Region – On Monday, May 9, 2022,the Region of Waterloo will join many other southwestern Ontario municipalities in participating in the first Professional Development Day (PD Day) for all early years and child care staff in licensed child care and EarlyON programs. Created and hosted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, the “Heartwork and So Much More” Virtual PD Day will engage thousands of early years educators for a day of insightful and educational sessions.
  • 2022 State of the Region focuses on community conversations Waterloo Region – This morning, the Region of Waterloo hosted the 2022 State of the Region address in partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Waterloo region. This year's event was called Community Conversations.
  • Temporary Shelters Extended to End of June Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo has extended its partnerships with St. Andrew’s Church and the YW to ensure ongoing supports for those experiencing homelessness to the end of June 2022.
  • Ontario Government releases 2022 Budget Waterloo Region – Today the provincial government released their 2022 budget, Ontario’s Plan to Build. The document commits to initiatives to address economic growth, employment and training, infrastructure and healthcare.
  • Piller’s Fine Foods and Waterloo Region District School Board recognized for water conservation Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is proud to recognize two local organizations for water conservation efforts that save 33 million litres of drinking water each year. Regional Chair Karen Redman presented the Water Efficiency Excellence Award to Piller’s Fine Foods and the Waterloo Region District School Board on April 26 for their water-saving projects.
  • Region seeks leader to help advance Truth and Reconciliation Waterloo Region – Located on the traditional territories of the Neutral (Attawandaron), Anishnaabe, and Haudenosaunee peoples, the Region of Waterloo is hiring a Truth and Reconciliation Director to help redress issues that affect Indigenous communities. Working with Indigenous communities, community partners and the Office of Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI), the Director will help to advance Truth and Reconciliation, anti-hate and anti-racism.
