  • Cambridge North Dumfries Ontario Health Team to open COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Cambridge Waterloo Region - Cambridge primary care providers and staff from the Cambridge North Dumfries Ontario Health Team are collaborating to bring another COVID-19 vaccination clinic to Waterloo Region. Starting Tuesday, April 20, members of the community who are eligible for the vaccine have the option of getting vaccinated at the Cambridge North Dumfries Ontario Health Team Vaccination Clinic at Langs, 1145 Concession Road in Cambridge.
  • Region contacting residents blocked by Telus to book vaccine appointment Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo’s COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force has been working with Telus to identify the mobile phone numbers of 2,900 of their subscribers who did not receive text notification that it was their turn to book an appointment to get the vaccine. This includes some subscribers of other telecommunications companies that use the Telus network.
  • Some Telus users in Waterloo Region may need to pre-register again for the COVID-19 vaccine Waterloo Region – Some Telus subscribers who pre-registered for the COVID-19 vaccine and chose text notification may not have received their notification due to Telus blocking the messages. On Friday, April 9, the Region of Waterloo was notified that Telus had been blocking some of their subscribers who had pre-registered for the COVID-19 vaccine through the Region’s online booking system due to the perceived volume of texts being sent.
  • Critical Regional projects receive joint funding Waterloo Region - Today, the federal and provincial governments announced joint funding for 10 community, culture and recreation infrastructure projects in southwestern Ontario, including two critical Region of Waterloo projects. The historic West Montrose Covered Bridge will receive $4.
  • Building trust in the COVID-19 vaccine in priority communities Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo’s Community Engagement Working Group has been reaching out to local priority populations to understand barriers and challenges they experience in accessing vaccines, and to inform how the COVID-19 vaccine is being distributed in these communities. An important goal of the group is to build trust in vaccine safety in priority communities and to understand the root causes of vaccine hesitancy so information can be provided in a culturally appropriate way.
  • AstraZeneca vaccine available at some primary care offices Waterloo Region – With the recent arrival of the AstraZeneca vaccine in Waterloo Region, in addition to getting the vaccine at participating pharmacies, some eligible residents are now able to get the vaccine from their primary care provider. This particular COVID-19 vaccine is being offered to eligible individuals aged 55 and older.
  • Two new vaccination clinics open to residents of Waterloo Region Waterloo Region - Two new vaccination clinics are opening in the coming days in Kitchener and Ayr for residents of Waterloo Region who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. On Thursday, April 8, members of the public will be able to get the COVID-19 vaccine at the New Vision Family Health Team, located in the Forest Hill Centre at 421 Greenbrook Drive in Kitchener.
  • Vaccine pre-registration opens for adults 50+ in high-risk neighbourhoods Waterloo Region - Starting on Thursday, April 8, adults 50+ who live in high-risk neighbourhoods that have been identified by the Province with local input can begin to pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine. These high-risk neighbourhoods have been identified throughout Waterloo Region based on the incidence of COVID-19 and the social determinants of health.
  • Waterloo Region under Province-wide shutdown Waterloo Region –Today the Province of Ontario announced it is imposing a Province-wide shutdown effective at 12:01 a.m.
  • Regional Council approves $1.1M to support local economic recovery Waterloo Region - Today, Regional Council approved funding for two programs supporting the local business community: a COVID-Safe Ambassador Program for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and COVID-19 retrofit program for SMEs. Both programs will be rolled out over the coming months alongside community partners, including the Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce and Explore Waterloo Region.
