  • Vaccine pre-registration is expanding to adults 45+ in high-priority neighbourhoods Waterloo Region – Starting Wednesday, April 28, adults 45+ who live in high-priority neighbourhoods that have been identified by the Province with local input can begin to pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine. Anyone 45+, or born in 1976 and turning 45 this year, who lives in one of the following high-priority neighbourhoods can pre-register for the vaccine as of tomorrow: Vanier/Rockway (Kitchener) Country Hills (Kitchener) Alpine/Laurentian (Kitchener) Victoria Hills/Cherry Hill (Kitchener) Shades Mills (Cambridge) Columbia/Lakeshore (Waterloo) Members of the public who are 45+ and live in one of the identified high-priority neighbourhoods are strongly encouraged to pre-register for the vaccine, and when they receive notification that it’s their turn to book an appointment, to do so right away.
  • If you are pregnant you are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine Waterloo Region – The Province has announced that if you are pregnant, you are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine as pregnant individuals are at increased risk of severe illness and hospitalization. This group has been added to Phase 2 of the vaccine rollout under highest-risk health conditions.
  • Community Environmental Fund supports 18 new projects Waterloo Region - RegionalCouncil has approved $149,992 in funding for 18 projects under the Community Environmental Fund (CEF) grant program this year. Applicants receiving funding include 15 community organizations and three schools, with projects ranging from Kids Cutting Carbon and community gardens, to reusable takeout containers.
  • Region and WRDSB agree to closure date for Elmira Children’s Centre Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo and the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) have agreed to an August 20th closure date for the Elmira Children's Centre, located at Riverside Public School. In accordance with its normal practice, the WRDSB is responsible for selecting child care providers to operate in its schools and will make a public announcement when a provider at Riverside is confirmed.
  • COVID-19 vaccine pre-registration opens for first group of essential workers Waterloo Region - Today, essential workers from some sectors are eligible to pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine in Waterloo Region. The Province has identified which sectors fall within the first group of essential workers who cannot work from home.
  • Federal budget reinforces Regional priorities Waterloo Region -Yesterday's federal budget provided the Government of Canada's plan to emerge and bounce back from COVID-19 and reinforced key priority areas for the Region of Waterloo. The budget responds to some of the gaps exposed by the pandemic, including long-term care, mental health, sickness benefits and child care.
  • Local Medical Officer of Health gets first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine Waterloo Region – Following the Province’s announcement that adults 40+ are eligible for the AstraZeneca vaccine, the Region of Waterloo’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang received her first dose of the vaccine at her neighbourhood pharmacy and encourages all eligible residents to book an appointment.

  • Region coordinating emergency child care, to start April 19 Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo is organizing an emergency child care program for parents and guardians who work in eligible health care and critical front line services, starting April 19. To be eligible: At least one parent/guardian in the home is on the Province's eligibility list;Both parents/guardians work out of the home; andChildren are of school age.
  • Waterloo Region reaches vaccination milestone as clinics adjust to reduced vaccine supply Waterloo Region – On Thursday, April 15, Waterloo Region reached an important milestone: 25 per cent of the adult population, or 133,166 individuals, have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Many more residents of priority groups who are eligible for their first dose of the vaccine have already pre-registered for an appointment on the Region of Waterloo’s website.
