  • Chief of Paramedic Services to retire at the end of August Waterloo Region - Stephen Van Valkenburg, Region of Waterloo's Chief of Paramedic Services has announced that he will retire at the end of August. Chief Van Valkenburg has served the Region in this capacity for the past nine years.
  • Grand River Transit fares change July 1 (1) Waterloo Region – Effective July 1, 2022, Grand River Transit (GRT) fares will increase by an average of 2 per cent to cover the increased costs of operating transit and planned service improvements. Monthly pass prices will not increase.
  • Mandatory masking lifting on Grand River Transit Waterloo Region – Masks will no longer be required on Grand River Transit (GRT) buses, trains and at customer service centres, beginning on June 11. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, GRT has relied on the guidance of Region of Waterloo Public Health and the Province of Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health to keep customers safe.
  • Seeking public input for King Street and Coronation Boulevard improvements Waterloo Region – Region of Waterloo staff is looking to reconstruct the deteriorating storm sewers and roadways along King Street, from Bishop Street to Concession Road, and Coronation Boulevard from Concession Road to Water Street/Hespeler Road.   Along with this work, the Region will replace significant sections of aging sanitary sewers and watermains, and also provide enhanced active transportation facilities for pedestrians and cyclists, including multi-use trails, cycle tracks and sidewalks.
  • West Montrose Bridge engagement is now open Waterloo Region – The West Montrose Covered Bridge is one of Ontario’s last remaining covered bridge, located in Woolwich Township, and is owned and maintained by the Region of Waterloo. Built in 1881 and maintained by the Region since 1998, the bridge is in need of structural repair to ensure it will continue to be part of the community for years to come.
  • Region of Waterloo expands Affordable Transit Program eligibility Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is investing an additional $120,000 each year to expand access to Grand River Transit services for people living with low income. This is one of the latest investments made through Council’s approved Equity Investment Fund.
  • The Boardwalk vaccination clinic set to close on June 12 Waterloo Region - The COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Medical Centre 2, 435 The Boardwalk in Waterloo is set to close on Sunday, June 12 after almost 16 months of operation. One of the two largest vaccination clinics in Waterloo Region, The Boardwalk has been a popular destination for individuals to get their first and subsequent doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Ride with Pride on Grand River Transit (1) Waterloo Region – Throughout the month of June, Grand River Transit (GRT) is inviting customers to Ride with Pride. To mark Pride Month, a specially designed wrap will cover a GRT bus that will pick up customers on routes in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.
  • Region picking up tree debris following weekend storm Waterloo Region — This past weekend's storm left Waterloo Region residents cleaning up more than just a few tree branches. The Region of Waterloo is reminding residents to place properly prepared tree debris out for their next regularly scheduled yard waste collection.
