  • The 1.5 km multi-use Market Trail is open Waterloo Region – A community inaugural trail walk/run/cycle today officially opened the Region’s Market Trail — a new 1.5-kilometre trail that connects the City of Waterloo and Township of Woolwich.

  • Public Health confirms first local case of monkeypox Waterloo Region – Region of Waterloo Public Health is confirming the first local case of the monkeypox virus in a male in his 30s. Monkeypox is a rare viral illness that is spread through close contact with body fluids, respiratory droplets, or lesions of an infected person or animal, or through contaminated materials such as clothing and bedding.

  • Children under 5 eligible for first dose and immunocompromised youth eligible for another booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine as of July 28 Waterloo Region – Starting Thursday, July 28, children from 6 months to 5 years of age can book an appointment to receive the first of two doses of the Moderna vaccine for COVID-19. Parents who want to get their children vaccinated are encouraged to contact their family doctor or visit their local pharmacy.
  • GRT celebrates Northfield Drive Maintenance Facility opening Waterloo Region – Earlier today, Grand River Transit (GRT) celebrated the grand opening of the new Northfield Drive Maintenance Facility, which will support the modernization and growth of transit in the Region of Waterloo. After years of expanding service and growing ridership, GRT has outgrown two other maintenance and storage facilities in Kitchener and Cambridge.
  • 18-59 year olds now eligible for fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine Waterloo Region – Starting tomorrow, anyone between the ages of 18-59 who has been waiting for a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine can get it now that the Province has expanded eligibility for a second booster. High-risk individuals should get their second booster dose as soon as possible and many of them have been eligible to do so for months, including: Individuals aged 60 and older; First Nation, Inuit and Métis individuals and their non-Indigenous household members aged 18 and older; Residents of a long-term care home, retirement home or Elder Care Lodge and older adults living in other congregate settings that provide assisted living and health services; and Individuals who are moderately to severely immunocompromised.
  • Region of Waterloo Supports Workforce Development in Early Years’ Sector Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is pleased to provide a new $5,000 bursary for students enrolled in Conestoga College’s Child Development Practitioner Apprenticeship program at the Doon campus. The funding is made possible through a one-time federal investment of $4 million for the Child Care and Early Years Workforce Funding, which supports innovative recruitment and retention strategies.
