  • Funding available for new affordable housing rental projects Waterloo Region – As part of a plan to accelerate the rate of affordable rental housing construction, the Region of Waterloo is accepting proposals for projects that would generate new units, convert existing units into affordable rentals, allow for acquisition of land/property to build new units, and repair existing units. A total of $5,665,653 is available; $2,665,653 is provided through the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative (COCHI) and the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative (OPHI).
  • Health Sciences Campus Kitchener vaccination clinic opens Waterloo Region – Today, the Waterloo Region COVID-19 Vaccination Task Force is announcing that a vaccination clinic is opening at Health Sciences Campus Kitchener, 10 Victoria Street South. This large clinic is opening in partnership with the University of Waterloo and the Centre for Family Medicine.
  • Vaccination clinic opens today in Wellesley Waterloo Region - Today, the Waterloo Region COVID-19 Vaccination Task Force is announcing that a vaccination clinic is opening in Wellesley at 3710 Nafziger Drive, Unit A. This rural location will make it easier for residents in Waterloo Region's rural communities to get the vaccine, including older adults and other priority populations.
  • Region of Waterloo to continue using local booking system Waterloo Region – As the Ontario government rolls out a province-wide registration system, the Waterloo Region Vaccine Distribution Task Force is announcing that it plans to continue to use the Region of Waterloo’s booking system for the immediate future. “The Province has asked communities that already had booking systems in place, to continue to use their local system to alleviate expected pressure on the provincial system,” said Shirley Hilton, Deputy Chief for Waterloo Region Police Service and head of the Waterloo Region Vaccine Distribution Task Force.
  • COVID-19 vaccination clinic opens today at Langs Waterloo Region – Today, another vaccination clinic opens in Waterloo Region at Langs Community Health Centre, 1145 Concession Road in Cambridge. This medium-sized clinic is accessible for the 80+ population and will be open five days a week (Monday to Friday) until April 2.
  • More vaccination clinics coming to Waterloo Region Waterloo Region – Residents across Waterloo Region will soon have more options when choosing their vaccination location, as additional vaccination clinics open this month in anticipation of a more steady supply of vaccine coming to the Region. Residents who are eligible to receive the vaccine can book their appointment at any clinic location in Waterloo Region.
  • Flags lowered at Regional buildings to remember COVID-19 victims Waterloo Region – Flags will be lowered at all Regional buildings today to honour those who have died from COVID-19 since a global pandemic was declared a year ago. All across Canada, we will remember those we have lost, and the people they left behind.
  • Change to time interval between two doses of COVID-19 vaccine Waterloo Region - The Province has announced that it is following the recommendations of the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) to extend the time interval between the first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to 16 weeks. Extending the time between doses means that more people will be protected sooner.
  • Community plan to reduce Waterloo Region’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions up for comment Waterloo Region – ClimateActionWR, a local collaborative of all municipalities and environmental non-profit groups Reep Green Solutions and Sustainable Waterloo Region, are partnering to lead the region to reduce GHG emissions by 80 per cent by 2050 through a plan called TransformWR. It will be available for public input starting today on engagewr.
  • Community collaboration between the Region of Waterloo and Indigenous leaders on the opening of vaccination clinics Waterloo Region - In the coming weeks, COVID-19 vaccination sites will open in Waterloo Region for First Nation, Métis and Inuit residents who want to get the vaccine in a culturally appropriate setting. Many community members have come together to facilitate the opening of two pop-up Indigenous clinics.
