  • Local planning underway in advance of approval of COVID-19 vaccines for children Waterloo Region – In anticipation that COVID-19 vaccines will be approved later this fall/winter for children aged 5-11, the Region of Waterloo is planning for the next phase of the vaccine rollout. The goal of advance planning is to be ready to administer the vaccine as quickly as possible to children 5-11 years of age when it has been approved and vaccine becomes readily available across Waterloo Region.
  • Have your say in Waterloo Region’s budget for 2022 Waterloo Region – Residents are invited to give feedback about Regional programs and services to help Council decide how they’ll be funded in the budget for 2022. The budget is a plan for how money is spent on resident-centered services that help our community achieve its most important goals.
  • Automated Speed Enforcement now in operation Waterloo Region – Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) is now in operation across the Region of Waterloo. Signs posted in eight school zones notify residents that the units are operating and drivers exceeding the proposed speed limit will run the risk of receiving a ticket.
  • Making it easy for residents to access their vaccine receipts Waterloo Region – Starting today, the Province requires proof of vaccination to access certain businesses and settings. Residents of Waterloo Region will need to have their vaccine receipts on hand as well as proof of identification to attend indoor restaurants, gyms, sporting events, movie theatres and other higher-risk indoor public settings.
  • Vaccine Distribution Task Force delivers successful rollout Waterloo Region – With over 82% of eligible residents fully vaccinated, the Region of Waterloo is extending thanks and appreciation to the Vaccine Distribution Task Force for the delivery of a comprehensive program to residents. With a steady supply of vaccine and a sustainable vaccination system in place, the vaccine rollout is moving to a maintenance phase.
  • GRT to release near miss ION train footage (1) Waterloo Region – Grand River Transit (GRT) will release near miss ION train footage to stress the importance of being safe around trains during Rail Safety Week, September 20 – 26, 2021. “It’s footage that will make you tense to watch and cause your belly to rise,” says Regional Councillor Tom Galloway.
  • Region seeks director to help address systemic issues Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is hiring a Director of Reconciliation and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) to help address systemic issues that have a long history of discrimination and negatively impacting members of marginalized communities. “This is an incredibly important role that will help us make significant strides as a community and organization,” said Chief Administrative Officer Bruce Lauckner.
  • More individuals with medical conditions now eligible for a third dose of vaccine Waterloo Region - Yesterday, the Province released guidance on which populations are eligible for a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. These individuals include those who are severely immunocompromised and the elderly living in high-risk congregate care settings.
  • Region announces vaccine policy Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo is implementing a mandatory vaccination policy that requires staff to disclose their vaccination status by September 27, 2021. Staff who are not vaccinated, or choose not to disclose their vaccination status, will be required to undergo education on the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination, as well as participate in a rapid antigen testing program.
