  • Region welcomes new Chief of Paramedic Services Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo is announcing that John Riches will be the incoming Chief of Paramedic Services. Along with a Master's Degree in Public Policy, Administration and Law from York University, the incoming Chief has significant leadership experience in the areas of 911 response operations, community paramedicine and health outreach programs.

  • Regional Service Impacts for December 23, 2022 Waterloo Region – In anticipation of the severe weather forecasted, the Region of Waterloo has made the decision to close some services and facilities. Museums: Ken Seiling Waterloo Regional Museum and Schneider Haus National Historic Site will be closed on December 23.
  • Additional Shelter Spaces and Continued Outreach Planned in Response to Winter Storm for Those Experiencing Homelessness Waterloo Region – In preparation for the winter storm, Region of Waterloo Housing Services will deploy its Extreme Cold Weather Procedures. This will see additional emergency shelter spaces provided, as well as continued outreach efforts to those currently experiencing homelessness, including connecting individuals to available Warming Centres.
  • Regional service changes for the holidays Waterloo Region - Here is a list of Region of Waterloo service changes for the Christmas and New Years' holidays. Regional Administrative Offices (Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge, and airport administrative offices) will be closed Monday, December 26, Tuesday, December 27 and Monday, January 2.
  • Region to Provide Winter Warming Packages Waterloo Region - With colder temperatures approaching, the Region of Waterloo is partnering with The Working Centre to provide Winter Warming Packages for people experiencing unsheltered homelessness. “Our first priority is always to connect individuals to safer indoor shelter spaces and support services,” said Councillor Jim Erb, Chair of the Community and Health Services Committee, Region of Waterloo.
  • Region of Waterloo Announces Location of First Outdoor Shelter Waterloo Region – In response to the ongoing homelessness crisis, The Region of Waterloo is announcing the location of the first outdoor shelter in Waterloo Region. This follows close collaboration with the City of Waterloo, the Township of Wilmot and The Working Centre, as partners continue to work together to find solutions for individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness.
  • $3.4 Million Allocated to Develop 51 New Affordable Housing Units Waterloo Region – Community Services Committee approved the allocation of $3.4 million in funding yesterday to support the development of two new affordable housing projects for Waterloo Region residents.
  • Region asking residents for feedback on possible ramp closures to improve safety at Lancaster Street and Highway 85 Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO), is undertaking an Environmental Assessment to consider the closure of the ramps connecting Lancaster Street and Highway 85 in Kitchener. The highway section on southbound Highway 85, where traffic from Bridgeport Road merges on and the traffic exiting to Lancaster Street diverges, is short and creates a weaving section known to have a high number of collisions.
