  • Weather impacting some Region of Waterloo COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics Waterloo Region – The majority of Region of Waterloo COVID-19 vaccination clinics are open today, however, visitors may experience longer wait times. There are two weather related clinic closures.
  • Eligible immunocompromised residents can book an appointment for a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Waterloo Region – Residents who are severely to moderately immunocompromised can book an appointment for a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as long as it has been 84 days since their third dose. A fourth dose of an mRNA vaccine will offer more protection to those who are most at risk of serious outcomes from COVID-19 and the Omicron variant.
  • Region invests $3 million in Indigenous led affordable housing initiative Waterloo Region – Today, the Region of Waterloo announces $3 million in funding for the development of 30 new homes for families in Cambridge, leading to a better quality life for residents. The homes will be managed by KW Urban Native Wigwam Project with funding from the Region’s Equity Investment Fund.
  • Many opportunities to get COVID-19 vaccine right now in Waterloo Region Waterloo Region – At regional vaccination clinics across Waterloo Region, there is capacity right now for residents to get an earlier first, second or third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Anyone who has an appointment later this month or in February is strongly encouraged to get an earlier appointment to increase their protection against the Omicron variant.
  • Region of Waterloo partners with peopleCare to give third doses to long-term care staff Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is partnering with peopleCare Communities, a company with 50 years of experience in senior living communities and care services, to administer third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to long-term care staff at the Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic. This will provide long-term care staff with more opportunities to get their third doses by the January 28 deadline mandated by the Province.
  • Region prepared for Omicron related staffing impacts Waterloo Region - Organizations throughout the Province are experiencing impacts to staffing levels relating to the Omicron variant. Currently, there are minimal impacts to services across the entire organization.
  • Thousands of appointments available for 5-11 year olds who still need a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine Waterloo Region – In addition to prioritizing giving third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to residents 18 years of age and older, the Region of Waterloo has thousands of appointments available for parents/guardians to book an appointment for their 5-11 year olds. Families are strongly encouraged to get their children vaccinated as soon as they’re eligible.
  • Region’s largest vaccination clinic introduces hockey-hub model to rapidly administer more third doses Waterloo Region – Vaccination clinics across Waterloo Region are ramping up to get more third doses in arms as rapidly as possible. Cambridge Pinebush, the region’s largest vaccination clinic, is introducing the hockey-hub model this week to increase vaccine capacity.
  • Region coordinating emergency child care to start January 10 Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo is organizing an emergency child care program for parents and guardians who work in critical health care and other front line services starting January 10, 2022. To be eligible: At least one parent/guardian in the home must be a:frontline health care worker providing in person care (including hospital and acute care staff, medical first responders, pharmacists and pharmacy assistants and community health care workers),frontline police and fire personnel,long term care home employee,individual working in a homeless shelter or providing services to people experiencing homelessness,frontline worker in congregate care settings,person working in correctional institutions, andworker essential to frontline child care and education.
  • Region of Waterloo Arts Fund awards 28 grants Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo Arts Fund is awarding 28 grants, totaling $195,118, in response to dynamic proposals submitted by a wide range of artists and arts organizations. Applications totaled 68 requests in all, for a sum of $534,373.
