  • Region of Waterloo increasing housing options, addressing community need Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo is partnering to create more housing options, increasing capacity within Waterloo Region's housing system. Starting at the end of November, House of Friendship will provide temporary transitional housing at its former shelter location at 63 Charles St.

  • Waterloo Region ready to administer COVID-19 vaccines to 5-11 year olds as early as next week Waterloo Region – Across Waterloo Region, regional vaccination clinics, doctors’ offices and pharmacies are preparing to administer vaccines to children ages 5-11. With today’s announcement that Health Canada has approved children’s doses for this age group, the Region of Waterloo is getting ready to administer doses to these children in the coming days.

  • Sunnyside Home in compliance with provincial vaccine mandate Waterloo Region - On October 1, 2021, the Ministry of Long Term Care announced changes to Directive #3, making COVID-19 vaccination mandatory for all staff, volunteers, students and support workers in long term care homes by November 15. Recent changes to the directive moved the deadline for second doses to December 13, allowing employees an opportunity to receive their first dose of the vaccine up to and including November 15.

  • Public Health reporting high daily COVID-19 case counts Waterloo Region – Waterloo Region is experiencing an increasing number of COVID-19 cases. Daily COVID-19 case counts have doubled, signalling a change in local transmission.
  • Region of Waterloo completes engagement process to identify and support those experiencing homelessness Waterloo Region - TheRegion of Waterloo has completed an expanded community engagement process to better identify and support those experiencing homelessness in Waterloo Region. The Point in Time (PiT) Count, conducted in September 2021, found a total of 1,085 people experiencing any type of homelessness.
  • Waterloo Region is ready to give third doses to more eligible groups Waterloo Region – Region of Waterloo vaccination clinics are ready to give booster doses to more groups eligible for a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. A third dose will offer better protection while the Delta variant is still circulating in the community.
  • Region of Waterloo reopens appointment system to make it easier to administer more vaccines Waterloo Region - In anticipation that more groups will become eligible for a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and that Health Canada will approve the vaccine for children aged 5-11 sometime this fall, the Region of Waterloo is reopening the local appointment booking system. An appointment-based approach will make it easier for Waterloo Region to prioritize administering first and second doses to children while administering booster doses to individuals who will benefit from additional protection while the Delta variant is still in circulation.
