  • Region will not appeal court decision Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo will not pursue an appeal to Justice Valente’s decision from January 27, 2023, and will continue to focus on supporting those experiencing homelessness in the community. Helping to end chronic homelessness while accelerating new affordable housing units are key priorities for the Region of Waterloo.
  • Region Invests in a Growing Community Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo is investing in a growing community, as Council passed the 2023 Region of Waterloo Plan and Budget this evening. The 2023 Plan and Budget increases and expands transit service, paramedic services, housing and homelessness supports, and accelerates initiatives to improve road safety for all users.
  • Giving Voice exhibit explores the power of music across generations (1) Waterloo Region – Giving Voice: Vocal Ensembles in Waterloo, a new multimedia exhibit will open at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum on Saturday, February 25. Originally inspired by the 100th anniversary of the Grand Philharmonic Choir, Giving Voice celebrates the heritage of local vocal ensembles, their diversity, the communities they inspire, and the power of music across generations.

  • Region celebrates groundbreaking of 73 new affordable housing units in Waterloo Waterloo Region – Today, Regional Chair Karen Redman, joined The Honourable Bardish Chagger, Member of Parliament for Waterloo, and Members of Region of Waterloo and City of Waterloo Councils, to celebrate the start of construction of a six-storey affordable housing development at 420 Kingscourt Drive in Waterloo. The Region of Waterloo is investing more than $26 million in this project, alongside nearly $5.
  • Region Expands Warming Centre Access Waterloo Region – Beginning Saturday, February 4, 2023, designated Warming Centres in Region of Waterloo buildings at 99 Regina Street South (Waterloo), 150 Main Street (Cambridge) and 150 Frederick Street (Kitchener) will be open seven days a week including holidays. This will continue until at least the end of February and into March, if required.
  • GRT partnership with Wilfrid Laurier University continues after successful U-Pass referendum Waterloo Region – Wilfrid Laurier University students have voted to continue the universal transit pass (U-Pass) program. The program will continue at the university until at least 2025, after a successful referendum.
  • Celebrating 50 years of the Region of Waterloo Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo has reached a milestone anniversary this year as it marks 50 years of helping to positively impact the lives of residents. In 1973, the Region took its current shape, with a Regional government working together with three cities and four townships.
  • Thirty-three local creators awarded $261,849 by the Region of Waterloo Arts Fund Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo Arts Fund (RWAF) is awarding a total of $261,849 to 33 local artists and arts organizations for projects slated to take place between January 1 and December 31, 2023. The Fall 2022 round of funding received 98 applications, with requests totaling $776,977.
