  • Region opens call for proposals for 2022 Community Environmental Fund Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is delighted to announce an open call for project funding for the 2022 Community Environmental Fund, following funding approval by Regional Council in December. Established in 2011, the Community Environmental Fund serves to provide financial support to community-led environmental sustainability and stewardship projects.
  • New framework to guide path to safe and well community for all Waterloo Region – A bold new vision and framework for working with the community to improve the lives of those facing the greatest barriers to safety and wellbeing in Waterloo Region was endorsed by Regional Council last night (Wednesday). The framework, co-designed with community leaders, will pave the way for transformational change – prioritizing a community-wide focus on the need for self-determined communities, strong circles of support, and accountable and sustainable systems.
  • Bingemans vaccination clinics administer 55,259 doses during vaccine rollout Waterloo Region – Now that the vaccination clinic at Bingemans Conference Centre has closed, the Region of Waterloo is celebrating a partnership that resulted in 55,259 doses of the COVID-19 being administered to residents. “We’re incredibly grateful to the Bingemans team for their support during the pandemic,” said Chair Karen Redman of the Region of Waterloo.

Resiliency: Shared Stories of Strength and Survival, which is slated to open to the public in the spring, comes on the heels of two years of a global pandemic, which has seen widespread reports of strains on mental health.
  • Municipalities advocate for critical rural issues Waterloo Region - Municipalities from Waterloo Region met with Provincial Ministers to advocate for critical rural issues including affordable housing, transportation and internet connectivity as part of the 2022 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference, which has just concluded. The Townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich joined the Region of Waterloo to collaborate with Provincial colleagues in order to enhance the quality of life for residents across the Region's townships.
  • Region of Waterloo invests $2.8 million in creation of new Justice Centre Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is investing $2.8 million over the next five years in the creation of a new Community-based Justice Centre led by Community Justice Initiatives.
  • Ontario to cautiously and gradually ease public health measures Waterloo Region - The Ontario government has released details of a cautious and gradual easing of public health measures, starting on January 31, 2022. In the absence of concerning trends in public health and health care indicators, Ontario will follow a cautious and phased approach to lifting public health measures, with 21 days between each step.
  • Municipalities push for urgent and transformative change on housing Waterloo Region - Municipalities from Waterloo Region met with Premier Doug Ford as well as Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, as part of today's Ontario-Municipal Summit on housing affordability. The Cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo joined with the Region of Waterloo to push for urgent and transformative change for all residents impacted by housing affordability and homelessness.
  • Monday area waste collection has been cancelled due to inclement weather Waterloo Region - Due to the heavy snow, icy road conditions, and for the safety of the collection crews, waste collection vehicles have been pulled off the road. Waste collection, including curbside garbage, recycling and organics, has been cancelled for the rest of the day.
