  • Region and UNIFOR Local 4304 continue negotiations over the weekend Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo and UNIFOR Local 4304 will continue negotiations this weekend in an effort to reach an agreement and restore transit services. The Region remains committed to reaching an agreement that is competitive for GRT employees and is affordable for residents.
  • Emergency Preparedness Week is a reminder to think ahead Waterloo Region - During National Emergency Preparedness Week (May 7 to 13), the Region and its partners will hold events to help people create an emergency plan for themselves and their family. “Emergencies can happen at any time and without warning,” says Diane Schofield, Manager of Emergency Management at the Region of Waterloo.

  • Upstream equity investments foster inclusion in rural areas Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo is investing $165,000 to address gaps in services for racialized and other marginalized youth and adults in rural areas. “This Upstream funding will help create more connections between organizations and grassroots groups to address systemic inequities in the townships,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman.
  • Upstream equity investments focus on systemic change Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo is investing nearly $1.5 million into 14 community organizations to address systemic barriers facing racialized and other marginalized youth and adults.
  • Region’s Children and Youth Planning Table launches third Youth Impact Survey Waterloo Region - Building on the hundreds of responses and over 60 recommended actions from past surveys on child and youth well-being, the Children and Youth Planning Table (CYPT) of Waterloo Region is set to launch their third, region-wide Youth Impact Survey. CYPT is a community-wide partnership of service providers, researchers, planning bodies, and funders who serve children, youth, and families, that works to improve the well-being of children and youth in the region, and importantly, move the needle on child and youth well-being.
  • UNIFOR 4304 members do not ratify agreement – on strike as of 12:01 a.m. Waterloo Region – Members of UNIFOR, Local 4304, representing Grand River Transit, busPLUS, MobilityPLUS operators, reservationists, fleet mechanics and service attendants have not ratified an agreement with the Region of Waterloo and will be on strike as of 12:01 a.m.
  • Tentative Agreement Reached with UNIFOR 4304 Waterloo Region – A tentative agreement has been reached between The Region of Waterloo and UNIFOR, Local 4304, representing Grand River Transit, busPLUS, MobilityPLUS operators, reservationists, fleet mechanics and service attendants. While the Region remains optimistic that transit service will continue uninterrupted, the union remains in a legal position to strike as early as Monday May 1.
