  • Region is golden in wastewater treatment Waterloo Region – Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) awarded the Region of Waterloo with a Gold Recognition award for taking care of the Grand River through outstanding performance of the Preston Wastewater Treatment Plant. The goal of the Watershed-wide Wastewater Optimization program is to improve the quality of the Grand River by reducing phosphorus and ammonia from treatment plants discharging in the Grand River watershed.

  • Smart Waterloo Region Innovation Lab receives $100,000 to make youth ideas happen Funding from United Way will help local organizations break barriers, support child and youth well-being WATERLOO REGION – United Way Waterloo Region Communities (United Way WRC) is investing $100,000 for Smart Waterloo Region Innovation Lab (SWRIL) to deliver training to community organizations that serve children, youth, and families. The training will help develop a community-wide framework to support youth innovation and fund youth-led projects – with the goal to improve child and youth well-being.

Service changes for Saturday, November 11: Grand River Transit (GRT) will operate on a regular schedule, however bus and train service will pause for two minutes at 11 a.
  • Reminder to parents and guardians: Ensure students are protected against vaccine-preventable diseases Waterloo Region - Region of Waterloo Public Health is reminding parents and guardians about the importance of vaccination for school-aged children. The Immunization for School Pupils Act requires that children in Kindergarten to Grade 12 must be up-to-date with vaccines for diphtheria, polio, tetanus, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chickenpox) and meningitis.
  • Grand River Transit proposing over 50,000 hours of added service Waterloo Region – With more people riding transit than ever in Waterloo Region, Grand River Transit (GRT) is proposing adding over 50,000 hours of new service to address increasing ridership numbers. This will help improve transit service, expand service to Elmira and Breslau and will add an extra MobilityPLUS vehicle.
  • Flu shot and new COVID-19 vaccines available for general public Waterloo Region – The updated COVID-19 and influenza (flu) vaccines are available for the general public in Waterloo Region. Vaccination is the best protection against serious illness.
  • Region of Waterloo paramedics honoured by Governor General Waterloo Region - Five Region of Waterloo paramedics have been awarded the 2023 Governor General's Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal. The medal celebrates the accomplishments of paramedics who have provided at least 20 years of exemplary service distinguished by high standards of conduct, industry and efficiency.
