Roads and infrastructure maintenance | 2026
This page provides an overview of the Region's 2026 road and infrastructure maintenance program. This is an annual program to improve and address aging infrastructure and repairs needed on roads, GRT bus stops, intersections, multi-use paths and sidewalks.

Intersection and traffic signal improvements
Cambridge locations
- Concession Street at Cameron Street (Type B PXO with rapid flashers and overhead signage)
- George Street North and Blair Road (new traffic signals, ladder crosswalks, and improved pedestrian landing areas)
- Dundas Street South at Fitzgerald Drive, Cambridge (New crossride installation)
Waterloo locations
- University Avenue West and Lester Street (upgrading the existing Intersection Pedestrian Signal to a Full Traffic Signal (all directions), ladder crosswalks, and improved pedestrian landing areas)
- Northfield Drive East and Bridge Street (New crossride installation on the south leg of the intersection for the existing multi-use trail, including protection intersection improvements by realigning/reducing crosswalk widths on the other legs of the intersection)
- Erb Street West and Caroline Street (PROVISIONAL – Subject to Final Design Approval) – intersection improvements, including adding crossrides on the west, north, and east legs of the intersection. It also includes enlarging the existing right-turn channelized island and relocating one train control arm to make it safer and provide more space for pedestrians/cyclists while trying to get through this intersection.
Kitchener locations
- Victoria Street South between Westforest Trail and Eastforest Trail (intersection improvements, pedestrian/cyclist landing areas, converting the existing sidewalk to a wider MUP, adding a new pedestrian refuge island)
- Note the expected timeline for completion is by the end of August 2026 before the Fall 2026 school year starts.
- Victoria Street between west of Lancaster Street to East of Weber Street (isolated sidewalk panel removal and replacement, curb repairs)
- Note: the work is anticipated to begin on or around June 24 for approximately one week. There will be localized lane closures; however, traffic will be maintained in both directions.

- Huron Street at Milton Street (Type C PXO with rapid flashers)
Woolwich locations
- King Street at Cedar Street (Type C PXO with rapid flashers)
- King Street at High Crest Lane (Type C PXO with rapid flashers)
