Roads and infrastructure maintenance | 2025
This page provides an overview of the Region's 2025 road and infrastructure maintenance program. This is an annual program to improve and address aging infrastructure and repairs needed on roads, GRT bus stops, intersections, multi-use paths and sidewalks.

Roads and active transportation maintenance
King Street, University Avenue to Central Street, Waterloo
- Concrete repairs, surface asphalt paving, underground infrastructure repairs and painting the cycling and pedestrian crosswalks.
- April 28–June 9, 2025
- Two-way traffic will be maintained on King Street with lane reductions during the concrete work. For paving, King Street will be closed to traffic overnight from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. May 23 to 29
- Alternate travel routes around the work area are available on Albert Street, Regina Street and Weber Street. There may be periods during construction when traffic will be directed by crews, as well as times when traffic will need to travel on a gravel surface.
- Grand River Transit (GRT) will temporarily relocate Route 7, from King Street to Regina Street while the improvements are taking place. Visit www.grt.ca/detours for updates.

Manser Road and Ament Line, Wellesley
- Replacing existing sidewalk and adding pavement markings
- Construction will be from April 7 to 11, 2025.
- Manser Road and Ament Line will remain open during construction. There may be periods during construction when traffic will need to be controlled by staff onsite.

Intersection and traffic signal improvements
Cambridge locations:
- Dundas Street South and Branchton Road/Faith Street (temporary traffic signals)
- St Andrews Street at Gilholm Avenue (pedestrian crossing signal)
- Grand Avenue South at Craig's Crossing pedestrian bridge (pedestrian crossing signal)
- Jamieson Parkway and Cooper Street (permanent traffic signals)
- Fountain Street South and Linden Drive (active transportation improvements)
- Fountain Street South and Preston Parkway (active transportation improvements)
Waterloo locations:
- Weber Street South at Bristol Street (pedestrian crossing signal)
- King Street North and Blue Springs Drive (active transportation and intersection improvements)
- Northfield Drive West and Highpoint Avenue (active transportation and intersection improvements)
- Northfield Drive West and Westmount Road North (active transportation and intersection improvements)
- Columbia Street West and Laurel Trail (pedestrian and mocromobility crossing signals)
Kitchener locations:
- Frederick Street at East Avenue (pedestrian crossing signal)
- Queen Street at Mitchell Street (pedestrian crossing signal)
- Courtland Avenue East at Courtland Avenue Public School (pedestrian crossing signal)
