Roads and infrastructure maintenance | 2025

This page provides an overview of the Region's 2025 road and infrastructure maintenance program. This is an annual program to improve and address aging infrastructure and repairs needed on roads, GRT bus stops, intersections, multi-use paths and sidewalks.
Our annual construction programs have ended for the season. This page will be updated with plans for 2026 repairs and maintenance projects.

Roads and active transportation maintenance
Shantz Station Road, Kramp Road to Hopewell Creek Bridge, Woolwich
- Work includes asphalt resurfacing and upgrading the guiderails on Hopewell Creek Bridge
- Starting October 6 for approximately two weeks
- Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times
- Lanes will be reduced, traffic will be maintained using flag persons or pace vehicles, expect delays
- Motorists will need to travel on uneven or gravel driving surfaces at times
- There are no sidewalks in this area. When walking or cycling through the construction zone please follow and obey the traffic signage for your safety.

Walker Road, Highway 7/8 to Bean Road, Wilmot
- Work includes resurfacing the asphalt, replacing the culvert and upgrading the guiderails
- August 11–mid-September 2025
- Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times during construction
- Bean Road (Township Road 8) west of Walker Road will be closed from August 25 to 27
- Traffic may need to travel on gravel surface or be controlled with flag persons at times
- There are no sidewalks in this area. When walking or cycling through the construction zone please follow and obey the traffic signage for your safety.

Bridge maintenance
Hartman Bridge, Huron Street, Wilmot
- Repairing the concrete and steel bars
- September 29–October 10 2025
- Two way traffic will be maintained, expect delays
- Sidewalks will remain accessible

Intersection and traffic signal improvements
Cambridge locations
- Dundas Street South and Branchton Road/Faith Street
- Temporary traffic signals with new pedestrian landing areas, connections to multi-use paths and sidewalks, and new pavement markings for a stop-controlled intersection
- St Andrews Street at Gilholm Avenue (pedestrian crossing signal)
- Grand Avenue South at Craig's Crossing pedestrian bridge (pedestrian crossing signal)
- Jamieson Parkway and Cooper Street (permanent traffic signals)
- Fountain Street South and Linden Drive (active transportation improvements)
- Fountain Street South and Preston Parkway (active transportation improvements)
- Kossuth Road and Chilligo Road (new left-turn lanes, road widening, new culvert)
Waterloo locations
- Weber Street South at Bristol Street (pedestrian crossing signal)
- King Street North and Blue Springs Drive (active transportation and intersection improvements)
- Northfield Drive West and Highpoint Avenue (active transportation and intersection improvements)
- Northfield Drive West and Westmount Road North (active transportation and intersection improvements)
- Columbia Street West and Laurel Trail (pedestrian and micromobility crossing signals)
Kitchener locations
- Frederick Street at East Avenue (pedestrian crossing signal)
- Queen Street at Mitchell Street (pedestrian crossing signal)
- Courtland Avenue East at Courtland Avenue Public School (pedestrian crossing signal)

GRT improvements
Fountain Street, Cambridge
- Installing two new concrete bus pads for GRT routes 61 and 57 at the corner of Fountain Street and Blair Road
- Installing new sidewalk, curb and gutter 20m west of Blair Road
- October 20–24, 2025
- Fountain Street between Dickie Settlement Road and Blair Road will be closed to through traffic during this work
- Please use the detour route provided, see the map here
- Pedestrian access will be maintained, please follow signs when walking or cycling through the construction area

Conestoga Mall Station, Waterloo
- Reconstruction of the bus station including three new bus shelters, accessibility and electrical improvements, asphalt repairs and pavement markings
- June–August 2025
- This bus station will be closed during this work
- A temporary station will be located in the parking lot north of Sport Chek during construction

Chicopee Ski and Summer Resort, Kitchener
- Construction of an asphalt road loop and new sidewalk off Morrison Road for GRT bus access. Also includes a new illuminated multi-use trail that connects the bus loop to the Chicopee chalet
