Region of Waterloo Public Health offers many services to schools to create a supportive environment that promotes the well-being of students. Learn about public health services and health enforcement for schools.


Kindergarten healthy start checklist 

Eye exams

  • Your child may qualify for free eyeglasses through the Eye See…Eye Learn Program. This is offered through participating eye doctors for all junior and senior kindergarten children.
  • Eye exams are free every year under OHIP for children ages 0-19. Learn more on our eye health page.

Dental exams

  • Yearly dental check-ups will keep your child’s teeth and gums healthy. These check-ups can catch problems early and prevent pain or infection. 
  • Your child may qualify for free dental care. Learn about the available programs on our dental page.

Support your child’s learning and development

Report vaccinations to Public Health

  • Children attending school (Kindergarten - Grade 12) must have proof of the required vaccinations or a valid exemption on record with Public Health.
