The Region of Waterloo is completing road improvements on Fischer-Hallman/Bearinger Road between Columbia Street W and Westmount Road N in Waterloo.
Phase 1- Columbia Street W and Westmount Road N
Phase 2- Laurelwood Drive and Westmount Road N
This work includes:
- New asphalt multi-use paths (Phase 1 and 2)
- Transit facilities on both sides of the street (Phase 1 and 2)
- Stormwater and drainage improvements (Phase 1 and 2)
- Upgrades to street lightning (Phase 1 and 2)
- Widening the road from two lanes to four (Phase 1 and 2)
- New watermain (Phase 2)
These improvements will benefit all road users.
Schedule
Environmental assessment: 2017–2020
Design and planning: 2020–2024
Construction phase 1: June 2024–December 2024
Construction phase 2: January 2025–July 2025
Final asphalt paving: June–July 2026
Note: timing may be affected by weather conditions; updates will be posted as needed.

Getting around during construction
Fischer-Hallman Road and Bearinger Road, between Columbia Street West and Westmount Road North, will be closed to through traffic from July 9 to July 11. During this time, there will be no access to Fischer-Hallman Road from Laurelwood Drive or Gatestone Boulevard.
The intersection of Bearinger Road and Westmount Road North will be closed on or around July 9 - 11 to accommodate construction staging and paving at the intersection.
During the closures, westbound traffic on Bearinger Road will be detoured via Westmount Road North and Columbia Street West. Northbound traffic on Fischer-Hallman Road will be detoured via Columbia Street West and Westmount Road North.
